The contract between the manufacturer AERO Vodochody and the state-owned company LOM PRAHA was signed in November 2022 with an option for four additional aircraft. The signing of the contract was a very important reference for the Vodochody-based company, while the purchase of new training aircraft gave LOM PRAHA the opportunity to continue training Czech Armed Forces tactical pilots on the same but more modern, L-39 aircraft platform.

Production of four L-39 Skyfox aircraft for the Aviation Training Center began in May last year, with the first two aircraft delivered to Pardubice in February this year and the remaining two joining them in August. Full-fledged training is already underway on the L-39 Skyfox aircraft.
The introduction of the new aircraft into CLV flight training will enable the gradual grounding of the previous L-39C Albatros types, which are gradually reaching the end of their life cycle.

"Skyfoxes are replacing the Albatros. It is a direct successor, better in every respect. The aircraft is much more pleasant to fly, offering pilots many new features and comfort," said Viktor Sotona, President of AERO Vodochody, to CZ DEFENCE.
The capabilities of the new aircraft were praised by CLV pilot-instructor Ervín Ehm, who was one of the first pilots to get acquainted with the L-39 Skyfox. "The transition from the L-39C aircraft is a huge change. For example, the aircraft features a glass cockpit with two large displays," said Ehm, describing the main advantage of the new aircraft, while also praising the virtual radar system.

The L-39 Skyfox aircraft is equipped with the latest technologies, including composite materials and integrated fuel tanks, which contribute to lower operating costs and excellent range. Modern avionics ensure maximum safety even in adverse weather conditions. The Skyfox features a full glass cockpit – two large color displays, a head-up display, and a HOTAS system. Multifunctional displays, including an accurate 3D terrain display, provide intuitive control and comfort during long flights. A key advantage of the L-39 Skyfox is its connection to a virtual training system, which allows complex combat scenarios to be simulated directly in the cockpit.

As already mentioned, the contract also includes an option for four additional aircraft, which will be officially decided in the coming weeks. The Aviation Training Center would thus have a total of eight modern L-39 Skyfox aircraft at its disposal and could more effectively meet the Czech Army’s demand for new tactical pilots.
